For a long time, I thought feeling good came from doing more — eating better, trying harder, staying disciplined.

But I still didn’t always feel it.

What I’ve learned is this:

I couldn’t unsee this link when I realised anxiety isn’t just in my head, it’s in my gut.

Stop drinking coffee first thing after you wake up.

Your body naturally gets a cortisol rise within the first 30–60 minutes of waking, which already helps you feel alert. Drinking coffee too early could lead to sharper crashes and stomach discomfort.

My boyfriend kept crashing when he had coffee within the first 2 hours of waking up and it often upset my sensitive stomach too.

I recently spend some time in Yunan to celebrate Chinese new year. In Yunnan, my life slowed down and I realised how much chronic stress activates the sympathetic nervous system.
In that state:
• Blood flow shifts away from digestion
• Gastric activity can slow (which may affect stomach acid levels)
• Gut motility can change (food may move more slowly — contributing to bloating or constipation)

Over time, this affects how efficiently we use nutrients —
and can show up as reduced immunity and metabolism.

Regulating the nervous system isn’t optional.
It’s foundational for a healthy gut and mind.

These are the foods I come back to when I want my digestion to feel lighter and more supported.

✨ Fermented juice after meals
My go-to for avoiding food coma and bloating. Gentle fermentation helps the gut break food down more comfortably after eating.

Alongside that, I keep things simple 🥗
• Easy-to-digest protein like salmon, for energy and repair without stressing digestion
• Seed mixes, rich in fibre and omega-3s, to gently support gut movement
• Greens and fibre-rich fruits to nourish good gut bacteria
My favourites: pomegranate, berries, dragon fruit.
Broccoli is great too — just cook it well to reduce gas, as it’s a cruciferous veg.

With a history of digestion issues, I’ve learned to take care of my gut — not perfectly, but consistently 💪
